JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The average U.S. price of a gallon of gasoline has jumped 8 cents over the past two weeks.

That's according to the Lundberg Survey of fuel prices, which puts the price of a gallon of regular at $3.84.

Midgrade costs an average of $3.99 a gallon, and premium is at $4.12.

Diesel rose 9 cents to $4.14 a gallon.

Of the cities surveyed in the lower 48 states, El Paso, Texas, has the nation's lowest average price for gas at $3.44. Chicago has the highest at $4.30.

The auto club AAA puts the average price at the pump nationwide of $3.83 per gallon.

Officials with AAA say prices are expected to decline as demand decreases with the end of the summer driving season and the end of hurricane season. Refineries also are switching to less expensive winter-blend gasoline.
