JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The state of Florida will honor the victims of the school shooting in Connecticut on Friday.

Governor Scott is asking Floridians to observe a moment of silence on Friday at 9:30 a.m., in conjunction with the people of Connecticut.

The time is when the shootings began.

When it ended, 20 children were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School along with six teachers.

The gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, then took his own life.

The University of Florida is also taking part. The UF carillon will toll 26 times on Friday in remembrance of the victims in Newtown.

@GaryG - The idea that there is a God as is mentioned in the Bible; you know that book that was written by a tyrannical king, is a myth. If a higher power did create everything, he/it has moved on to improve a new world. Nothing that powerful is concerned with us; we would be no more important than ants. As far as a moment of silence at 9:30 on the last business day of the week is a joke. First, it doesn't do dead people any good and secondly, he would have to mandate that no customer service reps answer phones, no store rings up sales, business meetings be delayed, etc. Nice grandstanding by Scott, but what really is the point? It is an empty guesture.

Perhaps one of you can answer, What kind of a God would allow such pain and suffering to happen in the firest place? Every time something like this happens we hear about all the prayers but there never seems to be an answer, it just keeps happening more and more frequently. I'm not saying there is no God, but it sure seems like he is not listening any more.

Nativejax - Its all over Facebook and I kept a copy of it in my documents so that I may continue to pray for those families. It is such a shame that this had to happen. Yes I will say a prayer for those families and our nation. Lord Jesus, protect our children from harm. Amen!

A Poem About The Sandy Hook Tragedy This is truly beautiful! A dear friend sent this to me yesterday. What a gift of love for those beautiful children. Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38 when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate. Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air. They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there. They were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say. They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day. "Where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse. "This is heaven." declared a small boy. "We're spending Christmas at God's house." When what to their wondering eyes did appear, but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near. He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same. Then He opened His arms and He called them by name, and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring, those children all flew into the arms of their King and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace, one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face. And as if He could read all the questions she had He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad. Then He looked down on earth, the world far below He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand, "Let my power and presence re-enter this land! May this country be delivered from the hands of fools, I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!" Then He and the children stood up without a sound. "Come now my children, let me show you around." Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran. All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can. And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight, "In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

There is no evidence that he had a bad relationship with his mom. On the contrary…It was said to be good. Speculation gets us nowhere….Just the facts please...
