MIAMI (AP) - The state had to pay back nearly $600,000 to welfare recipients who were denied welfare aid because they failed or refused to take a drug test.

An Orlando federal judge ordered the state last year to temporarily suspend the law championed by Gov. Rick Scott that required welfare recipients pay for and pass a drug test. The judge said the law may violate a constitutional ban on unreasonable searches and seizures.

Nearly 4,000 adults did not have drugs in their system and 108 tested positive.

Critics said roughly 4,000 of the state's poorest families were not able to buy food or pay rent during the four month period when they were denied befits because of the drug testing law.

Look, if I get drug tested and the goverment uses my money to pay for any assistants, food stamps, wick, housing or any dam thing else, why shouldn't they have to past the test also. I have to pass one to work but they don't have to pass one to get my money. Thats bull, plain and simple.

hey 1country, What do you mean, "no matter rich or poor"? You really think this Scott administration would go after their own? If they were truly serious then they would also be testing ALL of the state employees…Including the Legislative body! This is just another way that this" %&^*%" governor is ripping off the taxpayer, and funneling the $$$'s to his cronies in the medical testing industry.

Why should poor people be tested and held accountable? How about rich stars and CEO's that abuse coke? Do they lose the ablity to work at all ? Of course not they are the elite citizens they have rights. On the other hand we are in new era where many think poor people should have no rights and be treated worse than slaves if they need help. Welcome to the new facist America those with money get everything those without welcome to hell till you have money.
