JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Labor Day is holiday to celebrate the American worker.  Statistics show workers here in Florida are not as celebrated as they were a decade ago.

Florida International University conducted a study revealing most workers are actually earning about the same or even less than they were in the year 2000.

Krista Mott delivers pizza for a Southside Dominos Pizza.   The mother of two tells Action News it's a job she's been doing for 14 years for the same money.

"I make the same minimum wage. I haven't gotten a raise," said Mott.

She has plenty of company.  Labor statistics show Florida food service workers like Krista earn less on average than they did in 2005 and about equal what they earned in 2000.

Mott said, "I have to work ten times harder. I get less time with my children."

And the cost of raising her kids continues to rise for things like health care, food and education.

Workers we met at the Natural Body Spa and Shoppe in the St. Johns Town Center tell Action News they’re personally making more money than they were years ago.

Toyia Bouldin, the assistant director at Natural Body, said, "I feel if they just put forth the effort and have the ambition, you can make it."

That’s what she teaches her five kids.

Krista Mott is teaching hers about hard work.  The single mom is now delivering pizza six days a week to provide for her family.

"It's hard," said Mott, "You just got to do what you got to do."

The latest jobs report shows Florida’s unemployment rate dropped this past year from 8.7% to 7.1%, but a lot of those new jobs are part time.

Duh. You can thank the Democrats and mandatory minimum wage.
