JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A former JSO officer facing child porn charges is collecting taxpayer-funded disability checks.

Action News went to Leon Brooks Sr.'s home Friday night and our camera was met by his wife. She didn't have much to say when asked for her response to the accusations against her husband. All we got is a request to leave her home.

In addition to trying to get a statement from the family, we also made calls trying to figure out if Brooks will get to keep his $1,800 a month disability check as he fights federal charges.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge President James Preston said this case is above their reach. "I understand the seriousness of the charges. However, with our judicial system, an individual that's arrested or indicted is still innocent until proven guilty in a court of law," Preston said.

Action News made several calls to the city Risk Management Division to find out if Brooks' disability checks will be revoked if he's found guilty. The FOP says only time will tell. "He's not been convicted of anything at this point and we trust in the system to come to the conclusion either positive or negative in his case before these types of things happen to him," Preston said.

Brooks heads to court again Dec. 27 to determine if he qualifies for a public defender. If he's found guilty on all four counts, Brooks faces up to 70 years in jail and up to a $1 million fine.

More information about the charges against him, and evidence is need to make an informed decision about him. Sometimes hackers take over a computer and store illegal data on it could be one these cases.
