JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- Metro Jacksonville, Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia will see mainly fringe effects from hurricane "Sandy" as the storm moves some 300-400+ miles east of Jacksonville Saturday. There will be showers at times into early Saturday but winds will be the most noticeable impact averaging 15-25 mph inland and 20-35 mph at the coast and beaches with higher gusts. Rainfall will average less than a quarter of an inch west of Highway 301...a quarter to half inch near I-95....and possibly 1"+ at some beach locations. While no significant damage is anticipated, "Sandy" will batter the beaches with rough seas and surf and dangerous rip currents. It's recommended that swimmers and surfers stay out of the water. There will be some beach erosion as well as coastal flooding, especially at times of high tide. Skies will clear with conditions improving overall from Saturday afternoon through Sunday. Click
