JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A teen who accidentally shot himself in the head last Friday night will be laid to rest Friday.

Zachary Dean Willis, 16, died at Orange Park Medical Center. Friends and family say he was trying to demonstrate something with the gun when it fired.

He was a Jacksonville native who attended Forrest High School.

The funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. at Jacksonville Memory Gardens in Orange Park. A viewing was Thursday, Sept. 20.

In lieu of flowers, family members are asking for donations to the funeral home or at a local Vystar Credit Union in Zachary's name.

The parents where not home at the time of the accident. To be honest I do not know if the gun was even his parents. There where a couple of teenagers in the home at the time of the accident. I knew him when he was younger and I know his mother very well and I know that if his mother would have been there she would not have allowed him to have position of the firearm.

Why are we not hearing anything about the parents allowing access to the pistol by a person who was obviously not old enough, informed enough or mature enough to be handling a firearm? Isn't there a law covering this? God knows we have laws for everything else.
