GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- More people are hopping on the bus system than in any time in the city's history.
The Regional Transit System that serves Gainesville and Alachua set records for single day, monthly and yearly ridership in the past year, according to RTS.
Just shy of 11 million riders rode the bus system last year, beating the old record by about 200,000 riders.
"We are very proud of our employees helping us attain another good year of service," said Director Jesus Gomez. "We continue to enhance our service to bring alternative transportation options to those in Gainesville and surrounding areas, while strengthening our public and private partnerships."
RTS says the strong numbers are helped out by riders from the University of Florida and Santa Fe College.
