ORLANDO, Fla. -- An Orange County couple was left homeless after a garbage truck smashed into their home Thursday morning.

Investigators said the impact of the crash made the entire house shift and did so much damage it had to be condemned.

The man who lived there said he heard the truck crash through his wall and when he looked up, the cab and its driver were sitting five feet away from him.

He said he was standing in the kitchen when Andrew Modeste, 39, crashed into his house with a Waste Pro Management garbage truck.

State troopers said Modeste was trying to make a right turn onto Lake Margaret Drive when his door opened.

As he tried to close it, investigators said he lost control and plowed through the wall.

Channel 9 looked into the driver's history, but in a statement Waste Pro said, "We understand that one of our trucks was involved in a crash that damaged a structure. We are investigating this accident and until we understand this situation it would not be appropriate to comment."

Charges are pending against Modeste.

The couple had been renting the home for the last year.

waste pro huh ??? he sure wasted the house...i wonder if he'll be qualified for unemployment insurance ??? hey why not,, we have had runaway garbage trucks in saint augustine... the driver stepped out and left it in gear without applying the parking brake... took out several cars that were parked... in another insatance,, another driver did the same thing except he took out a fire hydrant,, in front of witnesses,, and then tried to deny he hit the hydrant !!! at 10:00 am with witnesses,, not to mention the 2 day laborers on the back !!! both of those operators kept their jobs with the city of st. augustine,, one subsequently quit or was fired,, the other can be seen eating chicken going down the road towards the landfill steering with his elbows... he was even cited by a state trooper for reckless driving,, but still drives city garbage trucks...
