BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Glynn County school leaders have canceled classes Wednesday over concerns of potential ice on the roadways.

After-school and athletic activities have also been canceled. Glynn County Schools spokesperson Jim Weidhaas said the main focus is safety.

"(Our) Main concern is transportation -- predictions of icy roads and bridges possibly and those are not conditions to be running school buses," said Weidhaas.

Parent Marnekia Bradley said the decision to call off school was the right one.

"We don't know what's going to happen with this weather. They said windy, cold, it could ice. It wouldn't be safe to be on the road," said Bradley.

Local schools aren't the only thing canceled. A church office posted a sign on its door letting people know it is closed Wednesday due to bad weather.

College of Coastal Georgia and Altamaha Technical College have also canceled classes.

The change of plans is leaving many parents scrambling to find someone to watch their children.

"That puts a bind on everything," said Bradley.

Georgia law allows for inclement weather days so school leaders say the day will not have to be made up at the end of the school year.
