JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- This afternoon, Governor Scott will announce his plan to invest in education and support pay raises for public school teachers.
Governor Scott pushed legislators to increase overall funding for Florida's public schools last year, but he didn't specify that the money go to teacher salaries.
In the past, GOP legislators have resisted raising teacher salaries, because they say it's the responsibility of local school boards to decide how much to pay teachers. Florida currently has roughly 168,000 teachers.
The governor will be in the Orlando area today to make his announcement about teacher raises. The news conference will start at 3 this afternoon.
