Guy Heinze, Jr. sentenced to life in prison
GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. -- The Brunswick man convicted of killing his family in a drug induced rage is sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The sentencing hearing for Guy Heinze, Jr. took place Thursday afternoon at the Glynn County courthouse.
Heinze was convicted last week of all the charges against him in the beating deaths of his father, his uncle, his aunt, his cousins, and a family friend.
The killings happened in August of 2009. And it was Heinze who reported the deaths to 911 saying, "My whole family is dead. It looks like they've been beaten to death."
Prosecutors initially sought the death penalty in the case but took it off the table as part of a plea agreement with the defense. That agreement also allowed an alternate juror to join deliberations after another juror was excused.
