JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Head Start program in Jacksonville has been saved, at least for now.

Congresswoman Corrine Brown and other leaders announced a resolution to reopen 16 facilities on Wednesday.

Two dozen centers were shut down last Friday, leaving 1500 kids with no place to go.

The 8 centers that won't reopen are only made up of about 250 kids. Their families will be contacted and given options for childcare.

Pastor R.L. Gundy, a spokesman in the fight, says they still have a long way to go.

"It's a temporary fix for a long term problem," he said.

Head Start will stay open through June 7, which is the original end date for the school year.
