JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Heat Advisory has been issued for South Georgia from noon today until 7 PM. This includes all of Southeast Georgia including Alma, Jesup, Pearson, Waycross, Blackshear, Nahunta, Brunswick, Homerville, Folkston, Woodbine, and St. Marys.
A heat advisory means hot and humid conditions will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses...such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Maximum temperatures within the Advisory area will top out between 96 and 99 degrees. The maximum heat index at that time (with relative humidity factored in) will be 108 to 110 degrees!
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives, neighbors, and pets.
