DAYTONA NORTH, Fla. -- A local mother is being credited with saving her daughter's life during a dog attack.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office says Brandy Bookamer and her 6-year-old daughter were walking down Mahogany Boulevard Sunday night when a pack of pit bulls started attacking.

Bookamer shielded her daughter and told her to run home to safety while taking the brunt of the attack.  Bookamer suffered numerous puncture wounds and lacerations.

The mother was taken Flagler County Airport and airlifted to Halifax Hospital.  No word on her condition.

The five pit bulls believed to be involved in the attack are now in custody of Animal Control.
