JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jason Beswick has been wearing army green for 19 years. "I am used to getting up and putting on the same uniform everyday, doing the same kind of routine," he said.
But the father of three will retire from the army soon, and join the 6.7 percent of U.S. veterans who are unemployed. "To be honest with you. It's kind of scary," said Beswick.
"I've been working small jobs here and there," said Justin Carroll. Carroll is a former Marine who was laid off in 2010 because of cutbacks.
"It's distressing at times. It gets you down, but you just have to keep looking. Keep pushing through," said Carroll.
And they are just two of hundreds hoping to land a job at the "Hiring Our Heroes" job fair.
"Veterans have a lot to offer companies. And one of our jobs at Recruit Military is to help connect them with companies who are looking specifically for them," Director, Robert Walker.
Recruit Military says they have helped hire 10,000 veterans and their wives nationwide through job fairs like this one. And the men and women here hope they are next.
"Definitely, I mean I am more than willing to do what it takes," said Beswick. And he hopes that determination takes him to his next career.
