PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- A woman's quick thinking helped her escape her from her sinking Smart car, seconds before it fully submerged under ground.
The car was swallowed inside of the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach just before 7 p.m.
The victim told Action News she drove through what looked like a water main break and didn't realize how saturated the ground was under it. She says her little Smart car quickly filled up with water, and that's when she grabbed her belongings and fled.
"I saw some water on the road and I saw the security officer in his car at the corner, and I made my turn and 20 seconds later I had water in my Smart car up to my ears," said Madaline Keeble.
Keeble says a tow truck was on the way to pull her car out. She told us she's just happy she made it out without a scratch.
The road where it happened is blocked off as the property management company investigates.
St. Johns County issued a boil water alert for 500 homes as a result of the same water main break.
