JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Mildred Chambers could only stand on the street and watch as firefighters fought the flames engulfing her mother's home. Even knowing that her mother was gone, she approached us to say what a wonderful woman the community lost today.

Margarine Cobb lived in that house. Chambers remembered her as a mother of eight daughters, and even more grandchildren - an amazing mother who will be very missed. "She was a very Christian lady. She taught us very well about the Lord. It makes it for me a little easier to accept that's just the way it is. That's just the way it is," Chambers remembered with stoic poise.

In a word, the account from Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Homicide Detective Sgt. Michael Paul was heartbreaking. "We actually had a 911 call that was not answered. When the dispatcher answered the call person never responded. We're working to find out if it was the person in the home," says Sgt. Michael Paul.

Paul went on to say Mrs. Cobb's body was found at the foot of her stairs. It appeared she was trying to escape the fire that had taken hold in her home.

While the cause of the fire that began this tragic day is not yet known, JSO detectives and fire investigators are promising to continue on in their effort to find some reason for the tragedy that unfolded.
