House fire in St. Augustine
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A massive fire destroyed a home on West King Street near the intersection of Orange Street in St. Augustine.
It happened around 2:45 p.m.
The St. Johns County Fire Rescue had to block off West King Street in order to run the fire houses.
No one was at the home when the fire broke out and no nearby homes were damaged.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office says students and faculty at a school nearby remained inside the facility, they did not evacuate.
Some neighbors worried a palm tree that caught fire in the backyard might damage their homes but firefighters were able to put out the flames quickly.
"The fire was reported and under control in under 15 minutes by our crews which is an extremely fast knock down for a house that was as heavily involved as this," said Mathew Sara, St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
According to Sara, fire station 14 is less than a mile away which allowed crews to arrive on scene in about three minutes.
No word yet on a cause.
