JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has confirmed the body found in Northwest Jacksonville is a missing mother from Oceanway. Police found the body Wednesday, November 14, in a wooded area off Braddock Road. JSO said Tuesday that he body belongs to 43-year-old Sherry Lee Prather.
"She was my road dog, she was my best friend," said Prather's fiance, Daniel Dollison. "We did everything together."
Prather's family told Action News Monday that they believed the remains were their loved one. They said homicide investigators from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office came to their Oceanway home last week to collect items that could link the missing mother's DNA to the decomposing body found in the woods.
"I knew it was her the whole time but I didn't want to believe it," said Dollison.
Prather was last seen at Oceanway's Boots N Bottles tavern on October 12. Action News helped uncover surveillance video days later from a business next door to the bar showing Prather riding away on the back of a motorcycle with a man. Her family believes that video might contain the last images of Prather.
"She had a great spirit and she loved living," said Dollison.
Police do suspect foul play in Prather's death. If you know anything, call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
