JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Action News is learning more about human trafficking in Jacksonville after a North Carolina mother sold her daughter for sex.

They're walking right next to you and you don't even know it. Girls sold for sex. Action News has learned it's happening here.

Now, the Northeast Florida Human Trafficking Task Force needs your helping tracking these young girls down.
"Ask the question, are you allowed to leave. Do you have the freedom to come and go as you please," said Crystal Freed. She's the task force co-chair.

Freed says there have been several cases here that are alarming. Just last month, Marvin Leigh Madkins was sentenced to 50 years in jail for sex trafficking. Court paperwork Action News obtained shows he brought two girls from Virginia to Jacksonville, promising them a better life. Now, we know they acted as prostitutes and got customers through Craigslist.
"They're doing it cause it's how they make their money," said Freed.

Freed says the girls come here, without knowing a soul.
"It's modern day slavery," she said.

That's why Freed says police are now more determined to crack down on human trafficking.

I add my prayers to the ones who are praying for changes in this kind of behavior.

Hood girl: This is not a judgement against you or meant to be an insult. I just want to say that by your comments I think you must be an African-American woman who was put into foster care as a child--and during this time abused, molested and just plain mistreated. If I am right I say to you that I am very sorry for what happened to you and hope your future is bright. God Bless...

hoodgirl-- Your post was very naive and pathetic. If you really want to see what racism looks like, look in the mirror and you will be staring dead at it. This poor little girl was put through a world of hurt and lost her life and you want to turn it into a racial issue. This had nothing to do with race. It happens everyday to people of all races, breeds and backgrounds. Your comment makes it sound as if you pity this piece of crap mother because she has not been treated right? Are you kidding me? You know nothing about this woman other than the fact that she is a drug addict, whore, and child murderer. Even if she had been abused since birth, there is no excuse for what she has done. When people such as yourself stop whining and simply try to get along with everyone as equals instead of wanting something, racism will be gone.

Human trafficking is slavery! It doesn't matter how you do it. Sex, money, and jealousy have killed many women and children right here in Jacksonville. When corrupt foster care is also slavery. Why don't some of you think about that.

Why does a child have to die before anyone cares about black women and children? How many of you watch from day to day as our children are pulled away from us and our homes are destroyed? Now there is no turning back from the abuse injustice created. It is sad that this black woman felt no love for her child but how can you feel love for a child when you are never respected as a mother? She is not the only one out there.Because of women like her good black mothers will lose their children in every racist community around the country and no one will notice.Where was children and families? They don't help anyone because they breed and encourage child predators and yet they get away with it.Many foster children have been sold into slavery but noone notices because their mothers are said to be drug addicts, but the truth is that our children are and have always been for the profit of this racist system. So who will really stand up for the children? Will you? No, because you can pretend you don't see us.

kwhatcher: You have got your head in the sand. It is immoral and against the law to have sex with young girls. Most likely 98% per cent are doing it against their well.

Why is it so hard for the media to report the facts. Human trafficking makes people think that you are talking about slavery? I doubt that what these "young" girls are doing is against their will. You make them sound like victims and they are not. Prostitution is what they do for work and although I believe it is immoral who are we to judge morality that should be left to ones own religious beliefs..
