Tallahassee, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol released its results in the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign” that ran from Dec. 12, 2012 until Jan. 2, 2013.
Troopers issued more than 39,000 traffic citations and made 548 arrests for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol or drugs across the state. FHP reports that during the campaign a total of 58 people died in nearly 11,000 traffic crashes.
“Our troopers were out on the roadways to help Florida residents and visitors have a safe and enjoyable holiday period,” said Col. Davide Brierton. “Every year the members of the Patrol do their part to identify unsafe drivers and remove them from the roadways, as well as take the appropriate steps to deter unsafe driving behaviors.”
