JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A crash involving 53 cars and trucks turned Interstate 10 into a parking lot on Friday Night.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the pileup began as a series of rear-end collisions on I-10 eastbound near US. 301.

Authorities had to shut down a portion of the highway, at the request of JFRD.  The wreck caused at least a two-mile backup.

FHP says 18 people went to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The highway reopened in all directions around 8:30 pm.

Weather was a factor in the crashes according to FHP.
