JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- All lanes of I-295 are open once again at Dunn Avenue after police investigated a fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer.

Troopers say a tractor-trailer truck driver traveling in the southbound lanes of I-295 lost control of his vehicle on Tuesday night while trying to avoid a car entering the on-ramp at Dunn Avenue.

Witnesses say the semi sped across the median and the northbound lanes before crashing down an embankment into a line of trees along the northbound side of the interstate. Investigators say the front of the truck caught fire.

The 61-year-old driver of the semi was pronounced dead at UF & Shands Hospital Jacksonville.

should have hit the 4 wheeler.. better the semi driver went home,,, than the 4 wheeler who caused the death of another !!! in 38 years of driving semis, I always had 3 sayings on the backs of my trailers,,, on the left side, "you'll see your wife tonite" ... on the right side, "i'll see your wife tonite"... and "smile as you go under" !!!
