JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- New information in the case of a 3 month old baby, killed by a mother police say was playing on Facebook.
Action News has pictures of 3 month old baby Dylan when he was just a few days old and in the arms of his mother Alexandra Tobias. Three months later it was a very different story. "He's my son. He's 14 weeks old. He's not breathing," said Tobias when she called 911 in January.
They were the cries of a desperate mother as 911 operators trying to tell Tobias how to breathe the life back into her son. But it was what police and our community would learn in the days and months after that makes this case so disturbing.
Action News has obtained police reports, witness statements and autopsy results detailing what happened to baby Dylan. In early statements by Tobias, she first blames the family bulldog for her son falling on the floor and getting a head injury. Then she changed her story saying her son accidentally hit his head on the changing table.
But it's what police found on Facebook that led to her arrest. They believe the baby was crying while tobias was playing the "Farmville" game on Facebook. They say she shook him until he was unconscious. Action News found a letter she wrote to another person at the jail where she says "I'm here for the wrong reason. They arrested me because my son was in my care."
Now Tobias sits in jail, waiting for her sentence for taking the life of an innocent child. She faces up to 50 years.
