It's not just the heat

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Tuesday temperatures have been steadily climbing...despite a canopy of persistent high clouds.

We are about to enter the "heart of the heat" over the next few days. Temperatures will peak Wednesday and Thursday. High temperatures will reach the mid 90s (about 94 or 95 degrees in Jacksonville). The heat, though, is not the full story.

The moisture content is up...raising the relative humidity. When the relative humidity is up, we as humans find it harder to cool off.

So the heat index was created to give a "feels like" temperature. The heat index factors in the relative humidity along with the temps. The heat index over the next two days will peak between 100 and 105 degrees! Limit your outdoor activities and drink plenty of water.

A "late-season" cold front moves through on Friday, lowering temperatures AND humidity, just in time for the weekend. It will still be very warm on Saturday and Sunday, but seasonably so.
