JEA emergency crews dispatched to Georgia
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Crews with JEA are on their way to Georgia to help in the aftermath of the incoming winter storm.
The state of Georgia requested mutual aid from JEA to help restore service to customers impacted by the storm.
The utility is sending 55 employees to Statesboro, which is northwest of Savannah.
The teams will leave at 3:30 p.m.
The last major weather event that had JEA crews on the road was Hurricane Sandy in Oct. 2012. Spokeswoman Gerri Boyce told Action News JEA sent 63 employees to Long Island in response to a mutual aid request from BG & E. The crews spent 26 days restoring power to 870,000 customers.
