JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrested a man in connection with a 2011 rape and murder of a woman.
48-year-old Delilah King was found raped and murdered in the front yard of a home on 5945 Oaklane Drive on May 19, 2011.
Neighbors reported seeing a dark colored vehicle backed up into the driveway of the home and then leaving the area. A surveillance camera from a nearby pest control office also captured a dark colored vehicle leave the area right after the victim was shot and killed.
Investigators obtained DNA of the suspect from the condom, they also recovered ballistic information on the gun used in the shooting. According to an FDLE report filed in June 2011 the gun used in the shooting was a 45 caliber gun by Star, Tanfoglio and Taurus.
On Tuesday, investigators in the case received an FDLE report that a match occurred between the DNA profile obtained from the condom found at the crime scene.
Investigators say the DNA sample was for 25-year-old Andre Jenkins. They also say that Jenkins was arrested in Georgia just six days after the murder of Delilah King on drug charges. Jenkins was driving a 2002 black Saturn at the time of the arrest.
Investigators found that Jenkins had an outstanding warrant for drug charges in Jacksonville issued from JSO in March of 2013. Jenkins, who is currently under felony probation in Jacksonville, was arrested on Tuesday for that warrant.
Jenkins was questioned regarding the rape and murder of Delilah King. He denied knowing the victim. He also denied having sex with the victim. Jenkins did admit to police that he had a .45 Taurus handgun up until he was convicted of a felony charge in June 2012. Jenkins says he has since sold the gun to a random stranger at a rest stop.
