JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a crash that involved one of its officers in Arlington early Monday morning.

JSO reports, one of its officers hit another vehicle while trying to make a turn from the center lane of Merrill Road near I-295 around 12:30 a.m. According to police, the officer was headed to a battery callout with another officer when the crash happened.

The driver of the other car was taken to Memorial Hospital, police said.

JSO is investigating whether the cruiser had its lights on. The officer involved was not hurt.

The JSO has a problem with officer involved car crashes. There needs to be an outside source to do investigations on incidents such as this. I have much respect for police officers doing the job they choose to do. But in recent weeks there has been items in the news, as well as at least one incident we know of that was not, that I believe is a conflict of interest when the JSO investigates it. Just saying.

I think that JSO needs to take some Driver Safety Classes from UPS. They do billions of miles a year and very few accidents. JSO makes alot of calls but 4 accidents in the last 2 months? Thats a little much. I mean how do you hit a car at 12:30 AM?
