JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --Jacksonville police are investigating what could be the latest in a series of "crash and grab" crimes.

Police say an unknown vehicle hit the front of the Family Dollar store at 4543 Shirley Avenue Wednesday morning and drove away. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating.

Last Thursday, witnesses say, they saw a vehicle smash through the Dollar General store at 8566 103rd Street, and then someone tried to steal items from the store.

The week before that, someone drove a vehicle into an AppleGate Food Store on Wesconnett Boulevard and stole beer and money. That store is less than a half-mile away from the Family Dollar store on 103rd Street.

In Wednesday's incident, the would-be thieves didn't get away with anything. Those on the scene said the criminals were likely targeting the store's safe. The vehicle was later found nearby, according to a police report.

JSO has not commented on whether the incidents are related.
