JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is alerting the public about a scam going around town.

A woman told police she received a series of recorded phone calls telling her she overpaid her taxes to the city.

The recording said the city would wire transfer her a refund or donate her overpayment to the "Save the Animals Foundation."

The woman did neither.

Police say the scam may be a way to get your personal information and people should avoid it.

Call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS if you have any information for police. You will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 if your tip leads to an arrest.
