JSO officer injured in crash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol says an officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office suffered minor injuries in a crash early Sunday.
A crash report from the F.H.P. obtained by Action News says the crash happened at 1 a.m. at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Anniston Road.
According to the report 29-year-old David Mendenhall is being charged with making an improper left turn.
The report states Mendenhall was driving east on Beach Boulevard approaching Anniston while JSO officer Randy Eleuteri, 38, was driving west on Beach. Mendenhall tried to turn left on to Anniston in front of Eleuteri.
Eleuteri was not able to avoid hitting Mendenhall's Chevrolet SUV, causing the left front of his JSO vehicle to strike the right front side of the SUV.
Eleuteri had to be taken to Baptist Hospital South with minor injuries according to the F.H.P. A spokesperson for Baptist South says he was released from the hospital Sunday morning.
Mendenhall and his passenger were unharmed in the crash.
The crash report says alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
