JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police said they are looking for a man who pretended to be with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the man told an 84-year-old woman that he was Capt. Frank Mueller with JSO.

It took place on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Police said the man asked the victim to withdraw $25,000 from her bank account at Wells Fargo.

The scammer explained to the woman that the money was coming from somewhere else, police said.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the man and victim met up so she could give him the cash.

Police said the man showed the woman his gold badge when they met up, but the woman later realized the badge was different than the normal badges.  She also later found out that no one under the name of Capt. Frank Mueller works at JSO, police said.

"We're not going to conduct an investigation like that," said Officer Shannon Hartley, with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. "We're not going to ask some citizen to go out and pull out a large sum of cash so that they can help us with our investigation. We're just not going to conduct business that way."

According to the Sheriff's Office, the scammer last wore a grey pullover jacket and pants. Officers are encouraging other potential victims to report any suspicious incidents to them.

If you know anything about the scammer, contact Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS. You could receive a cash reward up to $3,000.
