JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who allegedly beat an officer when resisting arrest.
Gale Patrick Murray, 36, has active warrants for battery on a law enforcement officer, domestic battery, resisting an officer with violence, and escape.
Sheriff's deputies say they detained Murray on April 23 while investigating a domestic violence allegation. Murray was placed in the back of the patrol car during the investigation.
Deputies later decided to arrest Murray. Deputies say they opened the back door of the patrol car to handcuff him, but Murray hit the arresting officer in the chest with both hands. Deputies say the arresting officer fell backwards to the ground, suffering several injuries.
Deputies say Murray continued to beat the officer before running from the patrol car.
According to sheriff's deputies, Murray was last seen near hotels around Lane Avenue and I-10 on Jacksonville's Westside.
