edit: sry I misread, they asked to take the gun from his hands but he responded by saying "he would blow their heads off" to which they then agreed to sell him some ammunition. So think about it, would you refuse to sell him anything he demanded after he threatened to use his firearm? Not a person fearful for his/her life and his/her fellow co-worker's would do so.

In response to EZZZE I think they had no choice to sell the ammo to the gunman. They informed the gunman he would not be welcome in the store holding a firearm ..he did anyway. He came in holding a shotgun with no way of knowing if it was actually loaded or not. To top it all off, they actually refused to sell the ammo which then the gunman said he "would blow their heads off" if they didn't. The employees at Academy did all they could do to reduce a potential threat and took the appropriate action of calling the authorities ASAP.

Considering a "loaded" shotgun & the employees being unarmed & "danger close" I'd say they done good!

@EZZZE – “How many people would have been shot? Are you serious? What a ridiculous question to ask. We’ll all have to consult our crystal balls to give you an answer. Since you’re not sure why the ammo was sold, read the article again because it says to get the gunman out of the store. I don’t think stores keep loaded guns behind the counter. Employees can go nuts too ya know.

Not sure why the employees at Academy Sports sold them ammo, what if the police hadn't pulled up when they did and stopped the truck? How many people would have been shot with the ammo they purchased? Thought the folks behind the counter where the guns are sold always carried some type of firearm?
