JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local television meteorologist is facing a charge of driving under the influence.

Police arrested Channel 12's Chief Meteorologist Tim Deegan in Jacksonville Beach on Saturday night. According to the police report, chemical test results on Deegan showed a .181 on the first test and .179 on the second. The legal limit for blood alcohol content in Florida is .08. The tests, according to the report, were taken three hours after the initial traffic stop.

A police officer sitting in his marked patrol car said he saw a Jeep Wrangler roll through a 4-way stop at Beach Boulevard and 1st Street South at approximately 10 miles per hour, according to the police report. Officer R. Blalock initiated a traffic stop about 100 feet north of Beach Boulevard at 7:17 p.m.

Officer Blalock, according to the report, said Deegan rolled his window down halfway.  The officer noted Deegan's eyes appeared red, watery and glassy. The officer also "smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle."  The officer said Deegan slurred his words and the odor of an alcoholic beverage became stronger as he handed over his license.

Two additional officers arrived to assist with the investigation.

The police report showed Deegan asked to be taken to a nearby parking lot to continue the DUI investigation because he felt nervous due to the large crowd that had gathered.

According to the report, Deegan told police he drank two beers at a birthday party that afternoon and was on his way home after running errands.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office jail log showed Deegan was booked into the jail just before 10 p.m. on a misdemeanor charge of DUI (under the influence of alcohol or chemical substance-facilities impaired).

According to the report, police searched his car and found three empty Budweiser beer cans, one unopened can of beer in the passenger seat, and a half-empty 16-ounce beer, cold to the touch, resting in the driver console.

Action News contacted Channel 12 for a comment. President and General Manager Eric Land said, "As a matter of policy FCN does not comment on matters of legal or personal nature involving our employees."

Deegan was released from jail just before noon on Sunday.

Tim Deegan is the REASON we watch this channel. Blalock..... that name sounds mighty familiar. Any relation to another newscaster? They sacked John O'Connor unjustly are we to see this kangaroo justice again?

As far as WTEV's John O'Connor goes, the timing of his DUI was fortuitous for WTEV for two reasons: (1) The station was about to merge its news with WAWS, and (2) as I explained to Mr. O'Connor when we met for dinner after his DUI (but before his termination), because President Obama was in office and very popular, it would make sense that WTEV replace O'Connor with Mark Spain, in the name of "diversity." It turned out that my analysis and prediction were completely correct.

I believe he, like the a lot of us, made a mistake. I do not think ANYONE realizes that every time we drink, it can sneak up on us and AFFECT us without us even knowing it. That's why there should be a NO DRINK limit on us IF we know we will be driving. Even ONE drink can affect us is we have taken meds earlier. ALWAYS let some one else drive, pay them if you have to. Better safe than sorry.
