OCALA, Fla. -- A federal jury found a Jacksonville man guilty of attempting to entice a child to engage in sexual activity.
Michael A. Collier, 48, faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in federal prison, up to a maximum penalty of life in federal prison. Collier was indicted on October 31, 2012. His sentencing hearing has not been set.
According to testimony and evidence presented at trial, Collier replied to an Internet posting that he thought was posted by a 13-year-old girl. After exchanging e-mails, text messages, and cell phone conversations with undercover law enforcement officers posing as the girl, Collier traveled from Orlando to Lake County to have sex with what he thought was the girl. When Collier arrived at the home to have sex with the child he was arrested.
