Jacksonville man sentenced to life in child sex crime
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man was sentenced Monday to life in prison without parole for sexually abusing a child.
John Fitzgerald Hagans, 48, was convicted last month on one count of sexual battery.
In 2012, a witness notified police of sexual activity involving a child. The report included the fact that Dalina Nicholas was so addicted to crack cocaine that she was failing to supervise the child properly. The victim disclosed that Hagans, also known as "mute," had touched her inappropriately.
Nicholas pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated child neglect and is awaiting her sentence. The state is recommending a sentence of no less than 25 years in prison for Nicholas.
