JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville teen facing terrorism-related charges will remain in jail.

According to our news partner, WOKV, Shelton Bell, 19, did not fight the Assistant State Attorney's request to retain him without bond, because he is already in Duval County Jail for other charges.

In his first appearance in front of a federal judge today, Bell said he understands the charges he faces, which include recruiting and training for a violent attack overseas, which he called a jihad. The indictment obtained by Action News claims that attack was in support of a branch of al-Qaeda.

Bell appeared in court with his beard shaved off and his hair cut down.
He was appointed a public defender. He will appear in court on Monday morning
