JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Mayor Alvin Brown and city leaders will help host the September 11th Day of Rememberance and Service event at Everbank Field Tuesday.
The event starts at 9 AM, and at 9:11 there will be a moment of silence. Event organizer Helen Jackson says it will be a time to remember all who serve the community.
"Although the event happened in New York, it could have happened right here in Jacksonville. We have several Navy bases here and other areas that could have been hit."
The event will feature 55,000 paper hands made by Duval County students to signify unity.
In addition, emergency and military personnel, with their families, will enjoy a free pancake breakfast courtesy of I-Hop.
Attendees are asked to bring a canned good for local families in need, and the USO will accept care packages for military members overseas.
The event is from 9 - 11 AM at Everbank Field.
