JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s been a hard knock life for 11-year-old Kyla and her little brother, 9-year-old Malik. The two are originally from Texas, where they tell me they spent a lot of time left home alone. Then last summer, what they thought was a would be a cross-country trip for school break transformed into confusion. They were dropped off at a family friend's home, but their mother never came back.

“It was the last day of school; I went to my God-mom’s house, but we never saw her again.”

A couple of months later, they were turned over to foster care as abandoned.

Despite all they’ve been through, Malik and Kyla are friendly, bubbly kids. They tease one another for kicks, but they’re extremely close, knowing no one else knows their pain like the two of them. This brother and sister are ready to expand their family, with the help of a mom and dad who are ready to offer them a home.
