JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The Jacksonville Jaguars have no plans to renegotiate running back Maurice Jones-Drew's current contract.

General manager Gene Smith says Jones-Drew "has expressed that he would like to renegotiate and we have expressed again that we feel he has a contract with two years left and we expect him to fulfill those obligations."

Jones-Drew, who led the NFL in rushing last season with 1,606 yards, has two years remaining on a five-year deal worth $31 million. He is scheduled to make $4.45 million this season and $4.95 million in 2013. Those figures are considerably less than other top tailbacks like Chris Johnson, Arian Foster and Marshawn Lynch.

Jones-Drew has skipped all of the team's offseason workouts, and it's unclear whether he will attend a mandatory, three-day minicamp that begins Tuesday.

Yes, he signed a long term deal with the team after being under paid for the first two years. Not only that the life span for a running back is a short one and if he gets hurt the team will cut him, forever. And in 2 years you, the people will be saying he is to old to be paying all that money. Yet, when you think about it you are under contract and look forward to you raise or re-negotiations before your long term is up.

It appears to me that MJD needs to get a better agent, now he will blame the Jags for his agents mistakes and will lay back like Mathis did last season. Mathis will play good this year just to get his numbers up for a trade at the end of this season. I hope MJD don't disappoint our new owner.

I can appreciate MJD's desire to be paid as the top running back that he is. MJD has been the face of this team for the past couple of years. At the same time when he signed his last contract he wanted a long term deal that provided security and a large signing bonus and, he got it. I get tired of star atheletes who sign long term deals then a couple of years later want more just because someone else is getting a bigger pay check. IF you want a long term deal then do the honorable thing and live up to it. If you want fair market value then sign a one year contract and see what the market value is the next year, but don't try to have it both ways.
