JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The New Year starts a new era for the Jacksonville Jaguars.  After 18 years with the home team, general manager Gene Smith was fired Monday, following the worst season in franchise history.

Die-hard fans were outside EverBank Field when the news broke.  Some say a shake-up is just what the team needs.

"I think Shad Khan should get rid of everybody and start over," said Jaguars fan Joe Teston.  "Keep your top key players and whoever's not cutting it, ship them out."

Other fans say Smith has done a great job, and that the team's problems aren't all his fault.  "I know that Mr. Smith had done a great job for us," said Sandy Rose.  "I respect him a lot.  And I wish him all the best in the world."

Now, fans are left to wonder what will happen to Mike Mullarkey.  Will Smith's replacement want a new head coach?  Only time will tell.  "It'll be interesting to see what happens this off-season," said fan Aaron Resnick.

Players need to go as well. It is game and as such it should be for entertainment, however, its also a very lucrative buisness and people are paid very very good money to be competittive. The job is not easy no one expects perfection but after a bad showing then a clean slate may be needed.
