Jaguars negotiating to trade Eugene Monroe to Ravens
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Jaguars are in negotiations with the Baltimore Ravens that will send former first round pick Eugene Monroe to the Ravens for future draft picks.
The deal will likely be announced on Wednesday. As of late Tuesday night, details were still being worked out and a physical for Monroe still had to be done.
Monroe was the first round pick in 2009 and he was surprised by the news when Action Sports 360 talked to him via phone on Tuesday night.
"I loved it here in Jacksonville," said Monroe. "My family likes it here, we bought a home here and it's been a great place for us."
Monroe's wife has family from Baltimore so that excited him about the pending move. The left tackle was in the final year of his contract and felt like he had performed at a high level.
"I was playing well I thought," said Monroe. "I feel like I improved every year of my career in Jacksonville. I wasn't thinking about a contract or anything that everyone had been talking about."
The Monroe move means this year's first round draft pick Luke Joeckel will now move over the left tackle position.
Joeckel had spent the entire offseason transitioning to the right side because of Monroe. Joeckel is more familiar with the left tackle spot and we should see him there on Sunday in St. Louis.
