JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed defensive end Bryan Smith on injured reserve because of a shoulder injury.

The Jaguars elevated Jeremy Navarre from the practice squad to replace Smith, who earned a starting spot earlier this month but injured his shoulder in Sunday's 18-15 win over Buffalo. His loss probably moves Quentin Groves back in the starting lineup for Sunday's game at San Francisco.

Also Monday, Jacksonville waived first-year guard Cameron Stephenson from the practice squad.

Coach Jack Del Rio said Monday that cornerback Rashean Mathis will miss the 49ers game because of a groin injury.

Mathis was sidelined against the Bills, watching as Terrell Owens caught nine passes for 197 yards, including a 98-yard touchdown.
