Jax Beach woman still critical after Christmas Day attack
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- A local woman who was found unresponsive in her home on Christmas Day after a welfare check remains in critical condition and underwent more surgery Monday.
Maximillan Michaels, 51, was arrested Christmas Day. Jacksonville Beach Police responded to a home on 1st Street South that he shared with Toni Nevelinski. Neighbors called police because Nevelinski had not been seen for at least four days.
A neighbor allowed police inside the home. They say Michaels appeared from another room with sword in his hands and waved it at officers. He made threats and told officers to "shoot me, shoot me," according to the incident report. They responded with Tasers at Michaels. He was taken to the hospital for treatment for his injuries.
Michaels was charged with three counts of aggravated assault to a law enforcement officer.
Investigators have not released the type of injuries for which Nevelinski is being treated or what caused them.
