LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A jury thinks Richard P. Franklin should executed for the murder of correctional officer Sgt. Ruben Thomas at the Columbia Correctional Institution in March of 2012.

Franklin was found guilty earlier this month for the correctional officer's murder.

Officer Thomas was killed by being stabbed in neck with a homemade weapon.

Franklin was an inmate at the correctional facility serving out a life sentence for battery on a law enforcement officer.

Now Judge Paul Brian has to decide on the penalty. The judge will make his decision on August 2.
