Jury recommends death penalty for Rodney Newberry
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man could be executed after a jury recommended the convicted murderer be sentenced to death.
The jury handed down the 8-4 ruling to Duval County Judge Adrian Soud on Friday.
According to the States Attorney’s Office, Rodney Newberry, 44, was convicted last month for the 2009 death of Terrese Stevens.
Prosecutors say in December 2009 Newberry and two other co-defendants robbed and shot Stevens numerous times at a nightclub off of North Pearl Street.
Judge Soud will make a final decision on sentencing based on the jury's recommendation.
