SEMINOLE COUNTY Fla. – A 12-year-old boy was arrested Friday afternoon by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office for calling 911 and reporting a hoax shooting at Lake Mary High School.
The Sheriff’s Office said the boy, a student at a local middle school, was charged with misuse of 911, disruption of an educational institution, giving false information to law enforcement and making a false report in the commission of a crime, all of which are misdemeanor offenses.
SCSO also reported that the boy called under a fictitious name. The boy reported to 911 dispatch that there had just been a shooting at Lake Mary High School and he was hiding out in the bathroom at the school.
According to a press release, the Sheriff’s Office immediately responded and evacuated students as a precaution.
The responding officers found no indication of a shooter or shots fired at the school.
SCSO said investigative techniques were used to locate the boy and evidence was gathered that determined his involvement in the crime.
The release stated that the 12-year-old was taken into custody Friday night and had his first appearance Saturday morning.
At the hearing the judge found probable cause for the arrest and ordered the boy to remain in custody pending another hearing with a juvenile judge Monday afternoon.
