JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Ferry Commission member Elaine Brown just thanked the Duval Delegation on Wednesday for approving a resolution for the state to continue funding the St. Johns River Ferry.
She said, "The state has very generously been a partner with us for a million dollars."
She said that money will help overhaul the ferry, repair its hull. Local money from the city and JTA is helping cover operational costs.
"All of these coming together is really quite exciting," she said.
Quite exciting, because it's been a struggle to keep the ferry afloat since Jaxport quit running it. But with state and local agencies working together, Brown says she's optimistic.
"We're funded this year," she said. "And I think that if we can get the JTA to continue a partnership, and the state of Florida to continue to do capital funding, that we'll be in much, much better shape in the future."
